March 14, 2010: Super Cup:

HB Tórshavn - Víkingur 2-1 (1-0)
1-0 Fróði Benjaminsen
1-1 Finnur Justinussen
2-1 Rógvi Poulsen

It was quite evident that it’s still early days as HB beat Víkingur 2-1 in the 2010 edition of the super cup.

HB took the lead after 10 minutes. Andrew av Fløtum’s long pass from the left found Fróði Benjaminsen who’s first touch wrong-footed Víkingur’s defence and from the edge of the penalty area Benjaminsen fired the ball into the back of the net.

Benjaminsen almost doubled the lead just a couples of minutes later when he this time got the ball from the right hand side, turned on a plate and shot from close range, but this time Geza Turi in the Víkingur goal managed to dive onto the ball.

Also Levi Hanssen went close shortly after from an acute angle.

Víkingur produced few scoring opportunities throughout the first half and only from crosses from the flanks did they come close to HB’s goals, but without really threatening.

However, on one occasion Víkingur should have equalized when HB goalkeeper Marcin Dawid punched a high ball straight out to Súni Olsen just outside the penalty area, but with the goal gaping, Olsen’s shot hit the post out.

HB had a couple of close efforts before the break. Andrew av Fløtum went close when his shot aimed at the far top corner was diverted by Geza Turi’s fine save and from the following corner, HB hit the crossbar, but the ball stayed out.

But 10 minutes after the break Víkingur were suddenly level again. A high cross from the right hand side should have been a piece of cake to collect for goalkeeper Marcin Dawid, but he made a meal of it, and last season’s Vodafone top scorer Finnur Justinussen showed that his predatory instincts are still just as sharp as he equalized.

Víkingur went desperately close to take the lead 20 minutes through the second half when Súni Olsen’s freekick hit the inside of the post, but the ball stayed out.

The game looked to be going to be decided with penalties when HB 4 minutes before the end of normal time snatched victory with a fine move. Fine combinations between Andrew av Fløtum and Rógvi Poulsen played the latter clear in the penalty area to shoot HB in front again and claim the super cup for the second year in succession.

All proceeds from the match are donated to charity (hopefully also the extra 14% which the ticket sellers at the gate charged more than the F.A.’s announced price was).
