March 27, 2011: Super Cup:
HB Tórshavn – EB/Streymur 0-2 (0-1)
0-1 Arnbjørn Hansen
0-2 Arnbjørn Hansen
Cup winners EB/Streymur easily beat champions HB Tórshavn 2-0 in today’s super cup match played in Gundadalur, Tórshavn.
EB/Streymur took the lead around the half-hour mark when Arnbjørn Hansen was played through in the penalty area and with ease rounded Heðin Stenberg in the HB-goal to finish in the empty goal. HB’s defence didn’t look good – and that continued throughout the match.
EB/Streymur had been the much better team and had created several chances before the opening goal. Hans Pauli Samuelsen should have scored early on when Daniel Udsen’s low cross played him completely clear in front of goal, but Samuelsen embarrassingly missed in front of the open goal when it looked easier to score.
EB/Streymur also could have scored through Brazilian Alex dos Santos whose curling and dipping long range effort went centimetres over the far corner. Also Rumanian Sorin Anghel went close with a header which the goalkeeper just managed to push onto the crossbar.
HB had very little to offer throughout the first half. In a race against EB/Streymur goalkeeper René Tórgarð, Jógvan Rói Davidsen was first on the ball and managed to head past the goalkeeper, but the ball rolled wide of the post.
HB made some substitutions in the second half which improved their performance slightly. For example Andrew av Fløtum came on for striker Krosslá Poulsen who had hardly touched the ball in the first half.
However, EB/Streymur were still the much better side in the second half too, and it took them less than 5 minutes from the re-start to increase their lead when Arnbjørn Hansen was played clear once more and fired a low shot from just inside the penalty area which caught the goalkeeper on the wrong leg.
EB/Streymur created most of the chances in the second half and Arnbjørn Hansen could have scored two or three more. Also Daniel Udsen went close with a fine shot aimed at the top corner from long distance, but this time Heðin Stenberg saved well.
HB had a reasonable chance through Símun Samuelsen on the left, but the acute angle made it difficult to get past the EB/Streymur goalkeeper who blocked the shot.
In injury time, HB went close with a header from a corner, but EB/Streymur saved off the line – or maybe inside the line?
Near the end, HB forward Andrew av Fløtum fell to the ground as he was chasing a ball and had to be stretchered off. - Looked like a pulled hamstring.
But it was a well deserved victory for EB/Streymur who at times played quite well with quick combinations. EB/Streymur probably took the match more seriously and played with their strongest team. HB on the other hand had fielded the team with several inexperienced players. Without saying too much, HB were dreadful and have to improve considerably if they are to play any part in this season’s title race.
But this match might say nothing about HB’s capabilities as they treated it mostly as a training match. But EB/Streymur will undoubtedly be near the top come late October.
