Faroe Islands coach Lars Olsen extends contract to 2020
Lars Olsen, who has been Faroe Islands coach since 8 November 2011, last week penned a new contract with Faroe Islands’ Football Association so that it runs until the end of the 2020 European Championships qualifying campaign.

Olsen has also already picked more than half of the squad for the Greece qualifier on 13 June. Tickets are going well for the match and it’s likely it will be a sell-out.  With the rebuilt Tórsvøllur, that now is getting a roof over the stands on the long side and behind one of the goals, the stadium’s capacity has been decreased from 6,000 to 5,200 spectators.

The full Faroese 23-man squad will be announced on Monday morning.

The short list looks like this:

Gunnar Nielsen, Stjarnan (ICE)
Tórður Thomsen, B36 Tórshavn
Teitur M. Gestsson, HB Tórshavn

Atli Gregersen, Víkingur
Sonni Ragnar Nattestad, Vejle BK (DEN)
Odmar Færø, B36 Tórshavn

Gilli Sørensen, AaB Ålborg (DEN)
Pól Jóhannus Justinussen, NSÍ Runavík
Róaldur Jakobsen, B36 Tórshavn
Kaj Leo í Barstalstovu, Levanger (NOR)
Christian Lamhauge Holst, Fremad Amager (DEN)
Brandur H. Olsen, FC København (DEN)
Hallur Hansson, Vendsyssel (DEN)

Klæmint A. Olsen, NSÍ Runavík
Jóan Símun Edmundsson, Vejle BK (DEN)

Player news:

Bárður Olsen
AB Argir midfielder Bárður Olsen quit in early may and has since been training with HB Tórshavn – at first to stay in shape only, but HB coach Heðin Askham did not rule out that HB might sign him when the transfer window opens in the summer break. Olsen played terrifically for HB in 2013 and is originally from EB/Streymur who also hope to get him in their fold for the second half of the season.

Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen
However, HB will also have the service of creative midfielder Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen available in the second half of the season. It’s a couple of years since av Fløtum Jespersen turned out for HB and he has not played a whole season for HB since 2007 because of studying in Denmark. When in shape, he’s among the very best midfielders in the country.

René Shaki Joensen
After a very successful campaign this season where the defender has been rehabilitated from defender to midfielder, 22-year old René S. Joensen has decided to stay with HB for the rest of the season, having originally had a contract until the summer break only. Joensen was for several years a trainee at Danish club Brøndby.

Brandur Olsen decides Danish cup final in extra time

Leading 2-1 against FC Vestsjælland, Brandur Olsen came on for FC Copenhagen in the 84th minute, but just to see Vestsjælland equalize four minutes later.

However, Olsen were to have the last laugh as he scored the winning goal in the 102nd minute as he received the ball a couple of meters outside the penalty area where he turned and fired low, not particularly hard, but out of reach for the goalkeeper to make it 3-2 for FC Copenhagen.

See videohighlights below. Brandur Olsen's goal at 4:01.
