I guess the result says it all. 9-0!

And you don’t win by 9 goals because you play well, but because the other team plays miserable. And that’s what ÍF Fuglafjørður did today. Especially their defense was bad; practically non-existing.

But let’s first describe ÍF’s two chances in the match and get it over with. In the first half, right after HB’s 1-0 goal, a ÍF player turns in the 6-yard box and shoots, but goalkeeper Bárður Johannesen makes a fantastic blocking save. Sylla Ahmed had a shot at goal in the second half, but it was straight on the keeper.

However, in fairness I should mention that 3 of the best ÍF players were missing, all of them defenders.

And about HB there isn’t so much to say other than just mention the goals. With no real opposition, HB’s performance can’t really be judged.

There were a LOT of goals in the match today and as I don’t take notes as I watch, the following descriptions of the goals might not be entirely correct; they are just from memory and I might very well have mixed them up and have forgotten exactly how the happened :-).

1-0 A HB player shoots from outside the penalty area, another HB player touches the ball, the keeper blocks, but Jákup á Borg was there to put in the rebound.

2-0 Hans á Lag was alone with the keeper and outplaceed him with a left foot shot.

3-0 Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen shoots, the ball is going wide, but it takes a deflection off a defender and beats the keeper.

4-0 Hans á Lag scores with a header from a corner.

5-0 Bárður Mortanson is alone with the keeper in the 5-meter box and scores with a cheeky “Lee Sharp–goal” steering the ball into the goal with his right foot “disguised” behind his left.

8-0 A very bizarre goal. Rasmus Nolsøe takes a corner for HB. Just as Rasmus has taken the corner, the referee blows his whistle to signal that Rasmus could take the corner now… But Rasmus had already taken it, but because of the referee’s whistling, all the ÍF players stopped, of course, but Hallur Danielsen heads the ball into the net and the referee allowed the goal. The referee clearly got that one wrong!

Both Skála and B36 won their matches, so the table is unchanged in the top.

On Wednesday HB play Kaunas in the Champions League. Some will take the score-line today as a moral booster, but that is probably the most dangerous thing HB can do, because their opponent on Wednesday will be 100 times stringer than ÍF. Therefore HB should just try to forget today match as is can’t be used for anything.

July 9, 2005:
B36 bounced back from their defeat last week against EB/Streymur by beating KÍ Klaksvík 2-0. This was KÍ’s 6 straight defeat. And that is also evident on the table where they are equal on points with TB Tvøroyri in last place, but TB have two matches in hand. B36 took back first place for a while, but as both Skála and HB Tórshavn play tomorrow, Sunday (against beatable opponents…), a win will take them above B36, but equal on points.

EB/Streymur traditionally either win or equalize close to the end of the match or they lose their lead. Same thing today when they were leading GÍ Gøta, but in the closing stages GÍ equalized.

July 10, 2005: Skála had no problems overcoming bottom team TB Tvøroyri and regain 1st spot again from B36, who had taken it yesterday. Both all of the 3 top teams, Skála, HB and B36, have 32 points.

A hattrick from Christian Høgni Jacobsen helped NSÍ Runavík to a 3-1 victory over VB Vágur. There are still only 2 poinst separating the last 5 team.
