June 13 & 14, 2009: Round 11 of the Vodafone Division:

June 13:

Víkingur – KÍ Klaksvík 4-1 (1-1)
1-0 Atli Gregersen
1-1 Kristoffur Jakobsen
2-1 Zoltan Bukszeki
3-1 Súni Olsen
4-1 Sverri Jacobsen

Víkingur were quickly into their stride and scored after only 6 minutes when centre back Atli Gregersen, who got his debut for the Faroe Islands against Serbia on Wednesday, met a cross from a freekick with his head.

Víkingur were in full control against a very tame KÍ team who created nothing. But, out of nothing, KÍ suddenly drew level when Kristoffur Jakobsen scored with an excellent long range shot 8 minutes before half time (Jakobsen played a great match in the Under 21’s shock victory over Russia on Tuesday).

But Víkingur quickly settled the score in the second half when a blunder in the KÍ defence allowed the Hungarian Zoltan Bukszegi (who just recently returned after injury) to score after 5 minutes after the break.

Midway through the half, Súni Olsen made it 3-1 directly on freekick - His 3rd of the season – before right back Sverri Jacobsen headed home from a corner to make it made it 4-1 some 80 minutes into the match.

Víkingur are now level with HB on 1st spot in the table, but HB could pull away again when they visit EB/Streymur on Sunday.

This was Víkingur’s 4th successive victory. KÍ on the other hand have still not managed to win a game. In the seventies there was a famous pop group in Klaksvík called “Straight Ahead” that had a hit with a song called “Heading for Disastre”. – Are KÍ heading that way…?

AB Argir – B68 Toftir 0-3 (0-1)
0-1 Pól Johannus Justinussen
0-2 Dánjal Pauli Højgaard
0-3 Ahmed Keita

The visitors needed only 4 minutes to take the lead when Pól Johannus Justinussen headed B68 in fron after a cross from left back Øssur Hansen. Justinussen is usually in the cenral defence, but today he played up front. (He also played a superb match in defence for the under 21’s who beat Russia on Tuesday).

Just 5 minutes after the break, Dánjal Pauli Højgaard doubled B68’s advantage when he was played clear with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Inside the last quarter of an hour Keita cemented B68 win when he got past several defenders before he rounded the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

June 14:

B36 Tórshavn – ÍF Fuglafjørður 0-0

The match was almost as boring as the result suggest. ÍF started better but eventually B36 improved.

This was the 3rd 0-0 result in the Vodafonedivision so far. – B36 have been part of two of them. For ÍF the sole point can be quite important, as they are now 3 points clear of 07 Vestur in 9th place and will stay ahead even if 07 Vestur win a game.

NSÍ Runavík – 07 Vestur 5-1 (2-0)
1-0 Bogi Løkin
2-0 Karoly Potemkin
3-0 Bogi Løkin
4-0 Bogi Løkin
4-1 Jens Erik Rasmussen
5-1 Óli Hansen (pen)

Top against bottom! – That was very visible on the pitch today as NSÍ easily beat 07 Vestur.

Bogi Løkin started the scoring after 20 minutes with a terrific shot from long range before top scorer Karoly Potemkin double the lead with another long shot just before half time.

Bogi Løkin then made it 3-0 just after the break before he completed his hat-trick within the first quarter of the half.

41 year old veteran Jens Erik Rasmussen then scored a consolation for 07 Vestur. His 8th goal of the season. Rasmussen is placed 2nd on the top scorer list; 3 short of Potemkin on top.

With 10 minutes remaining, Óli Hansen made it 5-1 with a penalty.

EB/Streymur – HB Tórshavn 2-3 (1-2)
0-1 Bjarni Jørgensen
1-1 Alex dos Santos
1-2 Bjarni Jørgensen
2-2 Arnbjørn Hansen
2-3 Andrew av Fløtum

With a hard-fought win over EB/Streymur, HB stay 3 points clear on top of the table while EB/Streymur drop 10 points behind and can wave farewell to the title they won last season.

HB took the lead after 8 minutes with a fine move which ended with Páll Mohr Joensen playing Bjarni Jørgensen clear for an easy finish.

Halfway through the half, EB/Streymur were awarded a penalty as the referee judged HB goalkeeper to have brought down Hans Pauli Samuelsen. However, Bárður Olsen missed from the spot. – His second miss this season.

But 5 minutes later, EB/Streymur equalized with a goal from Brazilian Alex dos Santos.

But the joy was short-lived as HB took the lead again just 4 minutes later with an almost replica goal of their first where it this time was Andrew av Fløtum who played Bjarni Jørgensen clear.

EB/Streymur piled on the pressure from the start of the second half and almost found an immediate equalizer when Hans Pauli Samuelsen’s finish was on the post and out.

But 5 minutes into the half Arnbjørn Hansen took full advantage of a defensive blunder and equalized for EB/Streymur.

But again the joy for the equalizer was short-lived – even shorter than for their previous, as HB pulled a head again the minute after! EB/Streymur forgot to defend; Páll Mohr Joensen got to the by-line and played Andrew av Fløtum clear to score an easy goal.

HB could have killed the game halfway through the second half. Bjarni Jørgensen was a whisker from a hat trick, but his shot from long range bounced off the post. But as Fróði Benjaminsen was about to score on the rebound, he was floored and awarded a penalty.

BUT! Penalties are not so dangerous in the Vodafone division as most are actually missed. So was this one, as EB/Streymur goalkeeper Gunnar á Steig (who is still replacing the injured 1st choice René Tórgarð) saved from Andrew av Fløtum. The statistics for the penalties are now that a staggering 8 out of 17 have been missed!

EB/Streymur put heavy pressure on HB during the last quarter of an hour. Bárður Olsen was closest when his shot from 20 metres rattled the crossbar in the dying minutes, but HB survived and stay 3 points clear of Víkingur and NSÍ Runavík in the table.
