May 02, 2007: Round 07 of the Formula Division:

HB Tórshavn move up to 3rd,
after easy win over sorry VB/Sumba

HB Tórshavn – VB/Sumba 3-1 (2-0)
1-0 Milan Culjic
2-0 Páll Mohr Joensen
2-1 Birgir Jørgensen (Pen.)
3-1 Rógvi Jacobsen

HB climbed to 3rd in the table with an easy victory over a very poor VB/Sumba, who must be seeing the writing on the wall clearer and clearer. With bold letters it spells out: Relegation! And being without their best player through injury, Ivorian Evrard Ble, didn't make it any easier for VB/Sumba, although it probably wouldn't have made any difference to the end result today. HB were also without injured striker Christian Høgni Jacobsen. But HB have plenty of players to choose from, so that wasn't a problem for HB.

It took only 6 minutes for HB to take the lead, when former VB/Sumba player Miljan Kuljic scored his first goal for HB. The goalkeeper had saved the initial shot from another HB player, but Kuljic was quick with the riposte.

Kuljic should have made it 2-0 a little later, but completely blank in front of goal, he blasted the shot over.

35 minutes into the first half, Páll Mohr Joensen was played through, and he lobbed Vlada Filipovic in the VB/sumba goal, but the ball bounced back off the crossbar, but Páll was quick to put the rebound into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

However, within a few minutes of the second half, VB/Sumba had suddenly reduced the score. VB/Sumba had a corner which HB-goalkeeper Marcin Dawid seemed to punch away cleanly, but to the astonishment of the HB-players, the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the penalty spot. Somebody in the crowd suggested that the referee had seen a handball. But long story short: Birgir Jørgensen made no mistake from the spot and reduced the score to 2-1.

And suddently, VB/Sumba were back in it. – Well, sort of, at least. Not because they ever threatened; in fact they were extremely poor throughout the match, and they never created a single scoring opportunity, and really, they only touched the ball a handful of times on the HB-half.

But despite of this, HB didn't feel too comfortable with just the 1-goal cushion, because they know that it only takes a few seconds to score a goal, and they remembered that they also appeared to be in full control against B71 Sandoy and GÍ Gøta earlier in the season, but still managed to give stupid and clumsy goals away and lost the games. And for too long – more than 20 minutes - HB couldn't restore that 2-goal cushion against VB/Sumba today.

However, Rógvi Jabobsen was getting closer and closer. First, he headed the ball just a few centimeters over, after a Rasmus Nolsøe corner. A few moments later, VB/Sumba's goalkeeper, Vlada Filipovic, made a splendid save, when he flat in the air tipped another header from Rógvi Jacobsen over the bar. But Rógvi wasn't to be denied his goal, because when the clock had just surpassed 70 minutes, Rógvi made the points safe for HB with an easy tap-in from a rebound, after a VB/Sumba-defender initially saved the shot on the line from Milan Kuljic from close range.

In between, the VB/Sumba keeper also made a spectacular diving save from one of his defenders, when the ball was destined to go in the top corner for an embarrassing owngoal.

Jákup á Borg could have added to the scoreline, but his shot went across the face of goal.

As NSÍ lost to EB/Streymur today, HB leapfrog NSÍ in the table and move up to 3rd, but still 5 points adrift of EB/Streymur, who lead B36 Tórshavn by 2 points.

Judging from the match today and looking at the table, it's extremely difficult to imagine how VB/Sumba can salvage their existence in the Formula Division this season.

The other matches in round 07:

EB/Streymur – NSÍ Runavík 1-0 (0-0)
EB/Streymur hold on to their 2-point lead over B36 Tórshavn with a 1-0 victory over NSÍ Runavík, who are sliding down the table. This was NSÍ's 3rd loss out of their last 4 matches and their 3rd away loss in succession. These kind of results suggest that NSÍ is not going to win the title this season. However, today's match was quite even, but early in the second half, EB/Streymur again decided the game on set pieces, when Hans Pauli Samuelsen instead of swinging the corner in front of goal found John John Heri Dam on the edge of the penalty area, and he bombarded the ball into the goal via the crossbar. EB/Streymur visit

GÍ Gøta – B36 Tórshavn 0-3 (0-0)
GÌ held B36 for the first 45 minutes, but in the second half, Bergur Midjord twice netted for B36 wile Fróði Benjaminsen scored one in-between. This was B36's 4th clean sheet in 7 matches. Such things can win you titles… This was also GÍ's 3rd loss at home out of a 3 matches. But it also has to be said that GÍ are missing several players through injuries.

Skála – B71 Sandoy 2-0 (1-0)
Skála amazingly won their 3rd match in succession, after they had lost all of their previous 4 and have gone from rock bottom to 6th position in record time and don't look like a team that's going to be relegated. And this was also Skála's 3rd clean sheet in a row. That's some feat by their only 16- year old goalkeeper Hans Jørgensen, who took over from Serbian Predrag Markovic, who returned home because of sickness. It mean that so far nobody has scored against the youngster in the Formula Division. This was the first time B71 lost on away soil this season, but they are still 4 points clear of the relegation zone and are not in any immediate danger.

AB Argir – KÍ Klaksvík 1-3 (0-1)
KÍ Klaksvík announced before the match today that they had parted company with two of the players their coach Tony Paris had taken with him from America, Kareem Smith and Chriss Cerroni. They hadn't really convinced so far (in addition to that they have also been injured) (see the January round-up, where these two players were discussed). However, today KÍ didn't need those foreigners, but they have others, an Argentinean and a Brit, and they scored all 3 of KÍ's goals today. Argentinean Gunnar Nielsen scored the first after only 4 minutes and KÍ were in full control. Nielsen added a second midway through the second half. AB then put heavy pressure on KÍ and reduced the score and almost found an equalizer, but at the end, Paul Clapson made the 3 points safe for KÍ.
