April 01, 2007: Round 01 of the Formula Division:
Champions HB Tórshavn start 2007 in style by beating Skála 5-2
Skála – HB Tórshavn 2-5 (1-3)
1-0 Bogi Gregersen
1-1 Rógvi Jacobsen
1-2 Rógvi Jacobsen
1-3 Rasmus Nolsøe
1-4 Christian Høgni Jacobsen
1-5 Páll Mohr Joensen
2-5 Bogi Gregersen
Although HB was taken by a surprise when Bogi Gregersen put Skála one up just a few minutes into the match, HB never panicked. Gradually they took control of the match and started creating scoring opportunities. Skála on the other hand rarely threatened the HB goal again; if ever.
First Rógvi Jacobsen went close after a diving header, but it went just wide of the Skála goal. Later, Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen forced a save from the goalkeeper, when he tried from the corner of the penalty area, after good combinations with Milan Culjic had set up the opportunity.
Not long after that, Rógvi Jacobsen equalized with a lobber, when he was clear in the penalty area.
A few minutes later, Skála felt Rógvi Jacobsen's dominance in the air, as the goalkeeper could only watch Jacobsen's well placed header go in close to his right post.
And before half-time, HB made it 1-3 when Rasmus Nosløe curled a free kick around the wall and into the goal.
HB had another opportunity – and also claimed it to be a goal – when the ball danced on the line, but the referee said it had not been in.
Skála played a long period of the second half with 10 men as Óbi was given the red card.
In the second half, HB were happy to play in cruise control and Christian Høgni Jacobsen and Jákup á Borg, who had been rested in the first half, after being on duty for country in Georgia on Wednesday, came on.
And Christian Høgni Jacobsen made a dream debut, in his first league match for HB, when he scored the first time he received the ball. – Well, received the ball isn't the right way to describe it, because he caught it himself, when he outpaced the defender – it actually looked like the defender was reversing in slow motion while Christian Høgni was fast forwarding – and one on one with the keeper, he fired the ball into the back of the net. He was close to his second goal when he again won a sprint duel, this time with the goalkeeper, which he rounded, but from the acute angle his shot was blocked.
HB were up 5-1 when Páll Mohr Joensen was played clear in the penalty area and from close range he blasted the ball into the goal for 5-1 to HB.
Skála got a late consolation, when Bogi Gregersen challenged a high ball which HB's keeper must take some responsibility for not catching, even if Gregersen's challenge maybe was (a little bit) irregular.
HB win 5-2 and have made a very positive start to their title-defense. But there will be tougher games than today's, where HB had an easy time, and where they'll have to tighten up their defense.
Next HB is at home to B71 Sandoy, and that ought to bring HB another 3 points.
The other matches in round 01:
GÍ Gøta – EB Streymur 0-2 (0-0)
All looked set for a stalemate, as the clock had passed 90 minutes, but then EB/Streymur scored in stoppage-time after a corner. GÍ complained that the goalkeeper had been obstructed, but the referee allowed the goal. And as GÍ had to gamble in order to force a draw, EB/Streymur took advantage of GÍ's thin defense and rubbed salt into GÍ's wound by doubling the lead. In between the two goals, GÍ´s Hungarian goalkeeper Geza Turi was sent off for a hard tackle on Ronnie Samuelsen. The 90 minutes had been quite even and had produced few scoring opportunities for either side. EB/Streymur next play at home against Skála who shouldn't trouble EB/Streymur too much. GÍ have a good opportunity for 3 points when they visit AB Argir.
B71 Sandoy - NSÍ Runavík 0-1 (0-0)
NSÌ was expected to win a comfortable victory over B71 Sandoy, but NSÍ needed 4 minutes of stoppage time before defender Óli Hansen's header from a corner got the better of B71. – A cruel goal, as B71 4 minutes before had hit the crossbar at the other end. The 90 minutes had been an even affair with few scoring opportunities. NSÌ, as one of the favorites for the title, will have to do much better if they really intend to win the championship. – Next, they get much tougher opposition, when they take on B36 at home. Even though B71 managed well against one of the favorites today, they will probably be struggling for most of the season and will have to get hold of every point that is within grasp in order to avoid relegation. Next they play HB away and that can only be 3 points for HB, surely…
B36 Tórshavn – KÍ Klaksvík 1-0 (1-0)
B36 never impressed in the 1-0 win over KÍ, and they'll have to up it, if they intend to challenge for top-honors this season. The same can be said about KÍ, whose attacking play looked uninspired. Sylla, scored B36's goal halfway through the first half when he dribbled through KÍ's defense and rounded the keeper. After today's match it's difficult to see B36 on top of the rostrum at the end of the season, but it's still early days off course. Next, B36 play away to NSÍ Runavík. KÍ play their next two matches at home against (on paper) weaker opposition, VB/Sumba and B71, and that should get KÍ going. But KÍ don't look to have championship material.
VB/Sumba – AB Argir 1-0 (0-0)
Both VB/Sumba and AB have been predicted to be among the most likely clubs to be relegated at the end of the season, so this was a massive game for both of them, as 3 points could make all the difference. VB/Sumba had more of the possession in the first half and came close when they hit the crossbar. VB/Sumba still had the upper hand in the 2nd half and 15 minutes into the second half VB/Sumba's supremacy resulted in a goal. AB tried to respond and had a few opportunities towards the end, of which one hit the post and a couple were saved on the line. VB/Sumba next play away to KÍ Klaksvík, whom VB/Sumba surprisingly last season beat 1-0 – one of the main reasons why VB/Sumba stayed up. AB Argir next play GÍ at home. If AB is still without points then, it already starts to look very grim for AB.
