September 24, 2006: Round 24 of the Formula Division:

HB come from behind to beat B36 in the Tórshavn derby

HB Tórshavn - B36 Tórshavn 2-1 (0-1)
0-1 Mikkjal Thomassen (pen)
1-1 Páll Mohr Joensen
2-1 Rógvi Jacobsen

With 2 second half goals, HB came from behind to beat B36 2-1 in the Tórshavn derby. The match started more lively than several of the latest between these two, probably because this one wasn't a title-decider, as they have often been lately, and therefore the match was less tactical and more open.

Early in the match, Rógvi Jacobsen was close with a header after a cross from Jákup á Borg on the right, but Jákup Mikkelsen in the B36 goal denied HB with a great save.

B36 then threatened at the other end and Bárður Johannesen in the HB goal had to be alert to save a shot from close distance from Johan Ellingsgaard. Overall, B36 probably had the better opportunities in the first half, and once, Hanus Thorleifsson was close, but his shot hit his teammate Sylla, instead of the net.

After about half an hour, B36 took the lead. Sylla was racing for the ball against Vagnur Mohr Mortensen, who was unlucky to step on the ball which allowed Sylla through, but he was then brought down by HB's goalkeeper and the referee pointed to the spot. Mikkjal Thomassen made no mistake with the penalty and put B36 1-0 up.

HB started the second half brightly and within 10 minutes Jákup á Borg was played clear, but Jákup Mikkelsen again denied HB, when he saved with his legs.

Later, Rógvi Jacobsen went close with a header again after another fine cross from Jákup á Borg, but the header was just wide off the left post.

But midway into the into the second half, HB found their equalizer when substitute Páll Mohr Joensen's stunning hook from the edge of the penalty area left goalkeeper Jákup Mikkelsen with no chance to save.

And only a double-save from Jákup Mikkselsen kept HB from taking the lead shortly after, when he saved from both Páll Mohr Joensen and Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen.

However, 7 minutes from the end, HB did take the lead. And this time it was third time lucky for Rógvi Jacobsen, when his header this time went into the goal just inside the right post.

HB then had a nervous wait for the final whistle, as B36 put heavy pressure on HB's goal, and once B36's goalkeeper, Jákup Mikkelsen, surged into HB's penalty area when he dribbled past 4 HB players – but he didn't score and HB held out and won 2-1 and as EB/Streymur only managed a draw against B68, HB haven't given up on catching EB/Streymur, although HB are 5 points adrift with only 3 matches left of the season.

B68 Toftir – EB/Streymur 1-1 (0-1)
EB/Streymur only managed a draw against bottom team B68 and EB/Streymur's play was far from convincing. EB/Streymur took the lead in the first half with a penalty, but B68 equalized early in the second half, also with a penalty. With the draw and HB's victory over B36, "only" 5 points now separate EB/Streymur and HB, with 3 games left. HB have the bottom 3 to play while EB/Streymur take on GÍ (H), ÍF (a) and KÍ (h). Is EB/Streymur getting nervous? EB/Streymur also played one of their worst games of the season last Wednesday in the cup semifinal against B36. Maybe they're just feeling the absence of injured playmaker Bárður Olsen. He is expected to return to action soon. Maybe that will keep EB/Streymur on track. B68's fate will be settled when they meet ÍF in round 25. Nothing except victory will do for B68.

KÍ Klaksvík – NSÍ 2-1 (1-0)
KÍ won their 4th victory at home this season as NSÍ suffered their 5 defeat in 6 matches. KÍ took the lead with a penalty shortly before half time, but NSÍ leveled the match with a direct free kick from Iulian Florescu in the second half (Florescu played with KÍ earlier in the season, but has later switched to Skála). However, in the dying moments, KÍ managed to find a winner. KÍ are now only 1 point from the bronze medals.

VB/Sumba – ÍF Fuglafjørður 1-4 (1-4)
ÍF won a comprehensive 4-1 victory over VB/Sumba and leapfrog both VB/Sumba and B68 to climb up to the all important 8th spot in the table. ÍF quickly took a 4-0 lead and their victory was never in any danger. If ÍF can beat B68 in the next round, then ÍF will more or less be certain to to stay in the division. VB/Sumba, on the other hand, look worse than they have ever done and with only 3 tough matches left against HB, NSÍ and Skála, VB/Suma are in deep trouble. Maybe they were a bit premature sacking their coach, because although VB/Suma has always been in danger of relegation, they had a special ability to not lose their key matches and therefore stay just above the 2 relegation spots.

GÍ Gøta – Skála 0-0
Not much happened in a game that didn't mean the whole world to neither of the teams, as they both lie mid-table. GÍ had a man sent off late in the first half, but Skála didn't manage to score even if they played 11 against 10 for the whole of the second half.
