April 17, 2006: Round 04 of the Formula Division:
Another late winner keeps EB/Streymur's 100% record intact
HB Tórshavn – NSÍ Runavík 4-0 (2-0)
In an entertaining match in Gundadalur today, with end-to-end stuff, HB Tórshav hammered NSÍ Runavík by 4 goals to 0, but NSÍ weren't as bad as the score line suggest; far from it!
Within the first 5 minutes of the game, NSÍ had 3 corners in succession and were very close to scoring on several occasions, where one of them hit the post. HB were seriously shaken – but not stirred!
Because HB regrouped and for the next 7 minutes it was all HB. And HB's pressure soon resulted in a goal, when a through-ball beat NSÍ's off side trap and played Páll Mohr Joensen clear and he could easily score in Jens Martins Knudsen's goal.
For the next 15 minutes, the attacks were waving back and for the between the two goals and NSÍ were very close to equalize, but instead, HB countered and a Jákup á Borg shot produced a corner for HB. This corner produced another corner which Tór-Ingar Axelsen took, but Jens Martin Knudsen in the NSÍ goal caught the ball, it seemed, but he lost it again and Emil Leifsson said thank you very much for the gift and tapped the ball into the goal.
NSÍ's Johann Troest Davidsen (contracted with Everton, but on loan to NSÍ) had a good effort from long range, but Bárður Johannesn in the HB goal made a good diving save.
NSÍ also had other opportunities, but bad finishing kept them at bay.
In the second half, NSÍ didn't have much to offer and rarely threatened the HB goal. Their only real opportunity was when a long range shot hit the corner of the woodwork.
But before that HG had made it 3-0 with a fantastic long range shot from Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen. He got the ball in the left corner of the penalty area and bombarded it into the far top corner!
Johan Ejvind Mouritsen scored his 3rd goal of the season 15 minutes from time, when he was played free, and alone with Jens Martin Knudsen, he blasted the ball under the keeper. So far, Johan Ejvinhe hasn't started a game, but surely, that will happen soon.
NSÍ, who were judged as one of the favorites for the title, has had a disastrous start to the season with only 4 points in 4 games. But today, the result could easily have been better, if they could have capitalized on their early chances, but they didn't… Next week they play at home against the table toppers, EB/Streymur.
Today's result will have done no bad to HB's self confidence, but if they are to beat Skála next Sunday, they cannot afford to have such a shaky start to the game as they had today, because they could easily have been behind with 2 goals within the first 5 minutes.
ÍF Fuglafjørður – KÍ Klaksvík 2-3 (1-2)
ÍF are still rooted to the bottom of the table after today's match. ÍF didn't make it easier for themselves when they scored an owngoal early in the match. But even though ÍF equalized twice, KÍ took all 3 points when Símun Joensen scored the winner just 5 minutes from the end. And ÍF have another difficult match in the next round, away to GÍ Gøta, and if they lose again, things will look real dim for ÍF. KÍ look set to keep their 3rd place for at least another week as they play at home against VB/Sumba in the next round.
EB/Streymur – GÍ Gøta 2-1 (1-1)
EB/Streymur came from behind to beat GÍ 2-1. GÍ made a bright start to the game and hit the crossbar from a free kick. Just 5 minutes into the game, GÍ took the lead with a goal from Sam Jacobsen. But then the Samuelsen brothers took over. First Hans Pauli Samuelsen headed in an equalizer, 30 minutes into the first half, and a few minutes before the final whistle, Ronnie Samuelsen scored the winner after a corner, which his brother Hans Pauli, took. EB/Streymur still has maximum points after 4 games. But how good are EB/Streymur really? Their schedule for the next weeks looks a bit tougher than it has so far, with games against NSÍ (a), Skála (h), B36 (a) and KÍ (h) ahead. GÍ play ÍF next and have a good chance for 3 points there, but after that, GÍ is probably going to drop a few places on the table, as they have many difficult matches ahead.
VB/Sumba – B36 Tórshavn 1-2 (0-2)
Just as their “relegation- nominee-colleagues” ÍF Fuglafjørður, VB/Sumba made an already difficult task almost impossible when they made an owngoal in the first half in the match against champions B36. B36 made it 2-0 shortly before halftime and even if VB reduced the score 5 minutes from the end, B36's victory was never in any danger. But B36 is not scoring too many goals, and it will be interesting to see how they will cope when they meet some of the stronger teams in the coming rounds.
B68 Toftir – Skála 1-0 (0-0)
B68 got 3 important points in the game against Skála and they will be happy to be 5 points ahead of ÍF and B68, and even if it's very early in the season, B68 should have the means to stay above them both, come October 21. Again today, it was Súni Fríði Barbá whos scored the goal for B68. That's 4 goals in 4 games. Actually, he has scored all of B68's goals, as they have 4! Skála is not heaving the best start to the season and today, midfielder Pauli G. Hansen was injured, and in Skála they feared that he might have broken a leg, but that has not been confirmed yet. That would be a major blow to Skála, who would then be without two of their midfielders from last season, as Nenad Stankovic is no longer playing with Skála. (Update: Fortunately, examinations showed the leg was not broken, but Pauli Hansen is still expected to be out for several weeks). At the moment, it's difficult to see Skála really going to challenge for the title.
