July 24, 2005: The Cup Competition – semi-finals, second leg:
10 men ÍF Fuglafjørður win over B68 Toftir and meet GÍ Gøta in the cup final.
ÍF Fuglafjørður secured their place in the cup final after beating second division team B68 Toftir by 1-0. ÍF had won the first leg 2-1, so when ÍF score for 1-0 in today’s game, B68 had to score twice. But shortly after ÍF’s goal, ÍF had defender Pól Ennigarð sent off for handling and brought new excitement to the game. B68 had majority of the play and produced several opportunities, but however, they couldn’t score and the final result was therefore 1-0 to ÍF.
GÍ Gøta took on B71 Sandoy from the second division. GÍ had won the first leg 5-1, so there was not much to play for in today’s game and that was also evident on the pitch in a dull and uninteresting match. B71 got the first goal, but nobody thought they were going to score another 3. – And they didn’t. Instead GÍ equalised shortly after and in injury time, GÍ got the winning goal.
This means that it will be ÍF Fuglafjørður and GÍ Gøta who will play in this year’s cup final at Tórsvøllur stadium on national day, the Olaifest, July 29. Results and goal scorers from today's matches below:
