Faroese trio lift Icelandic league cup

Fylkir – Valur 1-3
1-0 Ingimundur Níels Óskarsson ('26)
1-1 Guðjón Pétur Lýðsson (pen '70)
1-2 Christian Mouritsen ('99)
1-3 Hörður Sveinsson ('119)

Icelandic club Valur with three Faroese players in the team won the Icelandic league cup on Monday with a 3-1 win over Fylkir after extra time.

Defenders Jónar Tór Næs and Jóhannus Justinussen were in the starting line-up while forward Christian Mouritsen came on in the second half and scored for 2-1 in extra time and was involved with the 3-1 goal as well.

Fylkir had been the better side in the first half and took the lead after 25 minutes through Ingimundur Níels Óskarsson.

25 minutes through the second half, the referee awarded Valur a penalty for hands in connection with a corner, and Guðjón Pétur Lýðsson safely scored from the spot.

Eight minutes into extra, time Christian Mouritsen brought Valur in front.

Mouritsen was also involved with the 3-1 goal two minutes before the end of extra time as he set up Hörður Sveinsson to score. Fylkir protested heavily as they thought the referee shouldn’t have allowed Mouritsen to enter the pitch in the middle of Valur’s attack, as he had been off the pitch to receive treatment.

Valur, who celebrate their 100th birthday this year, also won the “Reykjavík title” earlier this season. Valur is coach by Kristján Guðmundsson who was coach at Faroese club HB Tórshavn last season, but was sacked with 6 matches remaining of the season (HB went on to win the title).

The Icalandic league, Pepsi-deildin, starts on 1 May.

09 April, 2011

It's time! The Vodafone Division starts with a bang today at 17:00 with a match between EB/Streynmur and Víkingur. Three equally exciting matches are on Sunday: NSÍ-HB, B71-KÍ, 07 Vestur-B36 and on Monday B68 take on ÍF.

--------

Rógvi Poulsen back with HB Tórshavn
HB have announced that winger Rógvi Poulsen, who has spent the last months at Crewe Alexandra in the English League Two, has returned to HB where he will stay until the summer break which starts in late June.

As Poulsen hadn't been eligible to play for Crewe because the paperwork hadn’t come into order yet, Poulsen's playing certificate was still with HB and he is therefore eligible to play for them.

However, this doesn’t mean that Crewe has parted with the player as they will send agents to follow Poulsen in action for HB and the national team. Poulsen is meant to return to Crewe sometimes in the summer.

This will be a huge boost for HB as they have been rather poor without him. He will improve HB by 15-20%!

Andrew av Fløtum sidelined for months
HB Forward Andrew av Fløtum, who pulled a hamstring in the Super Cup a fortnight ago, is expected to be sidelined until the second half of the season.

--------

Jann Ingi Petersen back with B68 Toftir
Midfielder Jann Ingi Petersen, a Faroese international, who left NSÍ at the end of last season to join Danish 1st division club Skive IK, has returned to the Faroe Islands "because of personal reasons" and has rejoined B68 Toftir, his original club.

Petersen's time in Skive was hampered by an injury and he never played a match for the club. But because Petersen's playing certificate is with the Danish club, he will not be eligible to play for B68 before the transfer window re-opens on 28 June.

He will be eligible to play for B68’s second team, however.

The contract runs until the end of the 2013 season.

--------

B71 Sandoy – KÍ Klaksvík played in Argir
B71’s home-match against KÍ on Sunday will not be played at home, but at AB Argirs pitch instead, as B71 are not finished yet shifting their more than 20-year old and worn out artificial surface with a new one.
